Spot Check: The Pond WA
My clothing sponsor Kitelements organised a day at the Pond one of Perths premier flat water spots. I usually make it down to the Pond a few time each season due to its ridiculous flat water and photogenic nature. The locals are talented in the water and super friendly as long as you dont short tack them.
This session was a bit of a surprise for the crew as the forecast was for very light southerly winds. It never got epic but the wind got up up to around 16 knots which was perfect for breaking out the larger kites in our quiver. It was a relaxing session with only a handful of kites on the water and even the infamous windsurf community where nowhere to be seen (Much to Damos disappointment).
I had the chance to try out the 2010 Naish Torch which had me going for Kite Loop handle passes almost immediately. This kite is so well behaved with massive amounts of grunt through the loop and is utterly sublime when unhooked. The crew where busting out in the marginal conditions with plenty of old and new school riding going down. The day wrapped up with a BBQ and drinks thanks to David and Christof from Kitelements.
Thanks to Az for the following frames.
